Along the Lofoten mountain range in midnight sun

The world’s most illuminating cycle race starts in Å - the most westerly outpost of Lofoten and Norway, and follows the world famous ‘tinderekka’ mountain range all the way to Lofoten’s easterly point, Lødingen.

The start of the race is a few metres from where cod fish is hung to dry and the route is protected and watched over by the national mountain ‘Stetind’, rising 1395 meters above the fjord.

Along the length of the race lies a fairytale land:
The sun sails between the sea eagles and the mountain peaks; amongst islands, bridges, and beaches with sand as white as snow.  Italian surfers surf throughout the night whilst German tourists fish taking advantage of the midnight sun.  The foxes are drunk on constant daylight and seagulls spend their siesta flying upside-down. Stomach tanning. Sometimes a whale or two pops their head up from the deep blue sea to greet us with a friendly smile.

You need to see it to believe it, so pay us a visit and you will enter a wondrous land where the sun never sleeps. (Unless it rains of course !!!!)

The race commences the night of 30th June 2012, with registration by 15th June.

Midnight sun – traffic free roads – relaxed atmosphere with cycle enthusiasts of all kinds.
Spend the night exercising your body and mind – support available throughout the event.
Be competitive and record your time or take a more relaxed leisurely approach, the choice is yours.

Equipment

Our recommendations for those who are out on long bike ride for the first time. We concentrate here to share tips and experiences that do not come under the clean claim to the "Rules."

Make sure your bike is in good condition and consider a check with the specialist if it is a long time ago. Replace any worn cables, brake pads, tighten the screw for the seatpost and other screws you depend on the way. Worn gears that are already doing that the chain slips now and will wear much during such a long trip. Replace them first!

Worn tires have of course changed, but do not do it the night before the start. You should have a training to make sure that does not itself have changed the hose pinched or left behind metal edges, tile, etc. gnawing holes in the hose. That happens more often than you think.
Pump the tires to the maximum pressure stated on them.

The most important special equipment is a good bike pants with padding, shoes and Scottish characteristics that can withstand possibly rain or spray from wet roads.

The rest of you may have already left: A close-fitting windproof jacket, tight wind-resistant pants, long gloves, cycling glasses (blank glass in these recommended). Training trips will tell you if these work fine.

Skigloves works like okay if it is dry, otherwise you will find neoprene sailing gloves-and-shoots ranging from the local retailer and at the hardware store.

A light, thin cloth can be moved around during the night: around your neck if you are afflicted with the respiratory tract, under the helmet if it is cold or tucked away in a pocket.

We remind you that the lights on the bike is required. This will be checked at the start. The reason for this is that there are several tunnels that will be cycled through. Here are two underwater tunnels (Nappstraumen, Sløverfjord) that riders should be particularly attentive in. There is often great speed down these tunnels, and then correspondingly less speed up ... For maximum visibility in the tunnels is recommended cycling glasses with shiny glass in.
